Co-director - Research and Innovation at SEREX

Papa Diouf holds a Ph.D. in Applied Industrial Science and Technology in Wood Sciences. Before becoming Co-General Manager of Research and Innovation at SEREX in 2023, he worked as a laboratory instructor in wood chemistry, wood finishes, and adhesives at the National School of Wood Technologies and Industry (ENSTIB) in France (academic year 2003/2004). He also worked as a lecturer in wood chemistry at Université Laval in 2007, as a researcher from 2010 to 2013, and as the scientific director of SEREX from 2013 to 2023. He was also an associate professor in the Department of Wood and Forest Sciences at Université Laval from 2011 to 2017.

His applied research and technology transfer activities primarily focus on sustainable chemistry and forest bioenergy. His key achievements include the development of bio-based resins for the panel industry using wood derivatives (pyrolytic oils and extractives), the creation of a semi-rigid bark fiber panel for insulation, and the development of a fire-retardant treatment process for lumber and plywood accredited by ICC Evaluation Service (patented in Canada and the United States by the industrial partner).
