Co-director of Corepan-Bois

Full Professor at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT)

Holder of the Canada Research Chair in Wood Valuation, Characterization, and Transformation

Ahmed Koubaa holds a Bachelor's degree in Wood Science and Technology, a Master's degree in Wood Science, and a Ph.D. in Pulp and Paper Engineering. He is also an associate professor in the Department of Wood and Forest Sciences at Université Laval and holds the Canada Research Chair in Wood Valuation, Characterization, and Transformation.

From 1996 to 1997, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Forest Biology Research and the Department of Wood and Forest Sciences at Université Laval. He also worked as a researcher at Forintek Canada (1997 to 2000) and at the Service de Recherche et d'expertise en transformation du bois (SEREX) in eastern Quebec (2000 to 2004). In May 2004, he joined UQAT as a professor-researcher.

His research focuses on the characterization, valuation, and transformation of wood. He is particularly interested in studying variations in wood quality at the phenotypic and genetic levels, as well as in silvicultural treatments and intensive forest management practices. Much of his research is dedicated to valorizing wood and fibers from underutilized native species or tree breeding programs. He is actively involved in the development of new technologies for the production of biomaterials.
